Letter from the President

Dear Family Members:

We are eagerly anticipating your student’s arrival on Wednesday, August 15, for Truman State University Move-In Day! This first year is sure to be a memorable one, and our faculty, staff and returning students are excited to welcome your entire family into our learning community and assist you in any way we can as your new Bulldog begins this transformational journey.

The Move-In Day map provides special Move-In Day driving directions to help you most efficiently locate and move into your student’s residence hall. Check-in begins at 8 a.m. Please plan to arrive between 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. University staff and students will guide you to temporary 30-minute parking areas for unloading. Our dedicated (and strong!) student volunteers will be available during the busiest times of the day to assist with carrying possessions to your student’s room before you move your vehicle to the designated long-term parking areas.

With a new Truman student, your family begins a special chapter in your lives. Hopefully many of your questions were answered at Summer Orientation or by reviewing the information on Truman’s Parents & Families website (www.truman.edu/parents-families). The Parents & Families website is a valuable resource during this important transition, especially in the coming weeks and months. If you have unanswered questions, please call the Center for Academic Excellence at 660-785-4409. You can also consult www.truman.edu/residence-life for more details related to the residence halls. University offices will be open on August 15 and numerous staff members will be available during move-in to assist you. Services that may be of particular interest are listed on the Move-In Day information webpage.

Complimentary refreshments will be available at various locations across campus to help you stay energized during a day full of carrying and unpacking boxes, moving furniture and doing last minute shopping. Lunch will be offered for $6.00 in Centennial, Missouri and Ryle dining halls from 11 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. You may also purchase food à la carte in the Student Union Building’s Mainstreet Market from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.

I invite you to take a break and attend the President’s Reception at the Hub lounge in the Student Union Building from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. This is a “come as you are” drop-by event with cookies and lemonade. I look forward to personally welcoming you to Truman and learning about your amazing student. I also look forward to welcoming you back to campus on September 29 for Family Day.

May you have a wonderful and memorable summer with your Truman Bulldog!

Best regards,

Susan L. Thomas
